Bhubaneswar: The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has approved a proposal to engage 4,580 retired teachers of the state as guest teachers in high schools where regular teachers’ posts are lying vacant.
Sources said the decision has been taken to address the shortage of regular teachers in schools and ensure that regular classes of the students are not affected.
A letter has reportedly been sent in this regard by School and Mass Education Department Additional Secretary to the Director of Secondary Education.
The guest teachers will be engaged in government, fully-aided, block grant high schools and Sanskrit tool schools from 2024-25 academic year and will continue in service till March 2025 or till the appointment of regular teachers, whichever is earlier
The District Collectors will have the authority to approve the appointment of guest teachers in high schools of their respective areas where regular teachers’ posts are lying vacant, the sources added.
