Odisha To Get First Aviation Security Training Institute Soon

Bhuabneswar: Odisha is all set to get the first Aviation Security Training Institute (ASTI) to impart training to personnel working in the aviation industry including police personnel.

The aviation sector in the state has witnessed remarkable development with three new airports starting operations apart from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.

In-house skilled and efficient human resources are required to handle a plethora of tasks for the speedily expanding aviation sector, officials said.

The proposed ASTI is likely to come up on the premises of Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI) at Birasal Airstrip in Dhenkanal, which was rechristened as Biju Patnaik Airspace Academy.

Director General of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Zulfiqar Hassan and the BCAS Deputy Director General Kavita Jala visited the state on Monday to take stock of the proposed project. They reviewed the security requirements of BPIA and Utkela airstrip in Kalahandi.

The institute, which can train 40 people at a time is likely to be operational within two months, said BPIA Director Prasanna Pradhan.
