Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will soon initiate steps for establishment of special development councils for northern and southern regions of the state to ensure faster and balanced growth.
This was decided at a high-level meeting in which Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the work of the Planning and Coordination Department and suggested preparing a people-oriented budget.
The CM was of the view that the people of the state have high expectations from the new government and said that it must be reflected in the state budget.
The Chief Minister advised the authorities concerned to focus on ensuring that different government schemes reach the grass root level and the people get the benefits.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to take steps for establishment of trauma care centres in mineral-bearing districts. The centres should be set up by using District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds, he said, and emphasised the need for establishment of trauma care centres in the district medical colleges.
The CM also directed the department to form a task force to prepare a proposal for the formation of Northern Odisha Development Council and Southern Odisha Development Council. These councils are proposed to be set up in line with the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) as promised in BJP manifesto for the recent elections.
