Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital city is set to host the 84th Indian Roads Congress (IRC) at Janata Maidan from November 6 to 10.
It will mark the return of this prestigious event to Odisha after a decade.
The five-day congress will see an extensive knowledge exchange on India’s road infrastructure in the presence of around 3,500 participants, comprising experts, scientists, engineers, academicians and administrators from across the country.
Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the event, which will focus on innovation, technology and policy in road construction and maintenance.
This is the sixth time Odisha is hosting the IRC. Bhubaneswar last organised the congress in 2015, which was the 75th edition.
As India emphasises on modern transport connectivity, the congress aims to strengthen collaboration between government agencies, business enterprises, and academic institutions.
Experts and educationists will deliberate on road-related challenges, share research findings, and present technological innovations aimed at strengthening India’s connectivity network.
Several technical sessions and exhibitions will be organised to showcase new products, advanced materials and modern engineering techniques used in road construction and maintenance.
The congress will also feature presentations on sustainable development of transport infrastructure, with several companies and institutions displaying their innovations and evidence-based practices.
There will be a cultural touch at the congress, featuring Odia art, dance and music performances, organised by the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture.
