Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to scorch under high temperature for next three days, while severe heatwave conditions will prevail in some places of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack , the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

In an advisory, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the state capital and Cuttack city. People have been advised to avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 30.2 degree Celsius temperature and 92 per cent humidity by 5:30 am on Friday. By 8.30, the mercury touched 34.2 degree Celsius, while humidity stood at 73%. High humidity addes to the woes of people.

The MeT Centre said there will be no respite from heatwave for the next three.  Severe heatwave conditions will continue till June 18 across the state.

Issuing a fresh orange alert for a severe heatwave for several districts for the next three days, it said many districts are expected to experience 5-7 degrees above normal temperature.

There is no possibility of significant change in day temperature for the next 3 days. There will be a slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 5-7 degree Celsius at a few places. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely to continue, it said in a tweet.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Khurda, Kalahandi, Angul, Deogarh, and Boudh districts today.

Similarly, a yellow warning has been issued for Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.

On June 17, an orange warning was issued for some places of Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Angul, Deogarh, and Boudh where severe heatwave will prevail.

Heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Khurdda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.

On June 18, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions is very likely to prevail at some places over the districts of Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh and Bolangir.

On June 19, heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at some places over Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Boudh, Bargarh, Nuapada, and Balangir districts.
