Bhubaneswar: In response to the decision of the Centre to formulate a scheme to set up 1023 fast-track special courts for expeditious trial and disposal of rape cases, the Odisha government on Monday announced 45 such courts for the state.
Talking to the media here, Law Minister Pratap Jena said efforts are on to set up 45 fast track courts on a war footing,
Of the 45 fast track courts, 21 will deal with rape cases against women and 24 with POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases, he said.
Stating that the Orissa High Court had 13 judges against the sanctioned strength of 27, the Minister said that expeditious justice would be meted out once the vacant posts are filled up.
