Odisha Train Accident: Memorial Service, All-Faith Prayer For Victims Held At Bahanaga
Balasore: Ten days after the horrific triple train accident that claimed the lives of at least 288 people, residents of Bahanaga near the mishap site in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday organised a memorial service for those killed in the tragedy.
The local residents also held a prayer meeting for the speedy recovery of the passengers who were injured in the deadly accident on June 2.
The people of Bahanaga, who had saved the lives of many passengers after the accident, organised the memorial service and an all-faith meeting to pay homage to those killed in the accident, sources said.
Several social activists also participated in the memorial service being held for three days near the premises of Bahanaga High School.
Several locals, volunteers, and social activists gathered at venue to pay tributes to the departed souls. Many of them shaved their heads and conducted ‘mass mundan’ as per Hindu rituals.
This apart, ‘Biswa Shanti Maha Yajna’, ‘Astaprahari Nama Sankirtan’, ‘Akhanda Gayatri mantra’ will be held on the 11th day on Monday and a ‘Satsang’ and candle light march on the 12th day on Tuesday.
A number of social and cultural organisations have also joined hands with the people of Bahanaga and Soro in the district the memorial service.
It may be noted here that at least 288 people were killed and more than 1100 injured in the three-way train accident that took place at Bahanaga in Balasore district on June 2.
