Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Railway Board has recommended that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be given charge of further probe into the horrific train accident at Bahanaga Bazar in Odisha’s Balasore district.
Union Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that taking into view all administrative information gathered so far, the Railway Board feels the central agency should take up the investigation from here on.

Earlier today, Vaishnaw said that the Commissioner of Railway Safety’s investigation has found out that the triple-train accident took place due to a change in electronic interlocking.
As many as 275 people have lost their lives and over 900 injured in the rarest of rare rail mishaps when the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express entered the loop line, rammed into a stationary goods train and got derailed, before the Yeshwanthpur-Howrah Superfast Express arrived from the opposite direction and crashed into some of the Coromandel bogies which had been thrown into those tracks.
