Bhubaneswar: Expressing grave concern over the threat calls to the head of the Kanyashram Jivan Muktananda Puri at Jalespeta in Kandhamal district, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Sunday urged the Odisha government to provide adequate security to him and the inmates.
At a press briefing here, vice-president of the VHP state unit Pandit Mahesh Sahu said that a similar call was received by Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati in August 2008. “Although Swamy had informed the police, the state government took it lightly. As a result, the Maoists, taking the opportunity of no security measures, barged into the Kanyashram and brutally killed him and four of his disciples,” he alleged.
He also lambasted the government for having failed to arrest the prime accused in the case after so many years.
