Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested Dileswar Majhi, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Titlagarh R&B Sub-Division under Kantabanji R&B Division of Balangir, for accumulating assets 165% excess to his known sources of income.
Four buildings, a market complex, nine high-value plots, 300 grams of gold and Rs 6,57,500 in cash, including Rs 6.08 lakh from a secret chamber beneath a bed at his Sambalpur residence, during the raids at six locations by teams led by 5 DSPs, 8 inspectors, 2 ASIs , and other supporting staff on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir, on Thursday.
He was arrested after he failed to produce documents supporting the sources of these assets, a Vigilance release said.
Assets detected in the name of Majhi and his family members are as follows:
1. A double-storey building over 4500 sqft area at Sambalpur town (Sarla) with a beauty parlour being run by his wife on the ground floor.
2. Another double-storey building over 6300 sqft area at Gandaghora Mouza in Brajrajnagar Unit-II, Jharsuguda.
3. Two more buildings at Lahandapur, Jharsuguda.
4. A market complex over 900 sqft area with 4 shops at Brajarajnagar, Unit -II, Jharsuguda.
5. 9 high-value plots – one each in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda’s Brajarajnagar and Badmal and 6 on the outskirts of Sambalpur town.
6. Rs 6,57,500 in cash.
7. 300 grams of gold.
8. Bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 49,45,965.
9. A four-wheeler (Swift Dzire) and 2 two-wheelers.
10. Household articles worth around Rs 16.20 lakh.
Majhi joined government service as a junior engineer (JE) in the Works Department on August 15, 1999 and was posted to Ambaghona block in Bargarh. In 2001, he was transferred to Rengali block in Sambalpur district and continued as a JE till 2003. From 2003 to 2007, he served as JE in different blocks under Jharsuguda district. Again from 2008 to 2013, Majhi worked as JE under Kantabanji R&B Division, Balangir. In 2014, he was promoted to the rank of assistant Engineer and worked under different divisions under the R & B Division, Bargarh. On October 10, 2022, he was promoted to the rank of AEE and posted at Titlagarh R&B Sub-Division.
