Odisha Vigilance Arrests ‘Bribe-Tainted’ Police Sub-Inspector After Chase
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a sub-inspector (SI) of Kujang police station in Jagatsinghpur district, Bibekananda Sahu, on bribery charges.
According to a Vigilance release, the SI had demanded Rs 8,000 as bribe in a case pertaining to a family dispute in which the complainant was granted anticipatory bail by a court on May 29. Sahu was the investigating officer in the case. “Soon after accepting the bribe money at the police station, he left for Jagatsinghpur. He was chased and apprehended by a Vigilance team, which recovered the entire bribe money from him,” it said.
Simultaneous searches are on at his government quarters inside Kujang police station campus, his office chamber and residential house at Govindpur in Dhenkanal to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, it added.
