Berhampur: Odisha Vigilance on Sunday arrested Block Education Officer (BEO) of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district, Sitaram Patro, for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The sleuths unearthed 3 multi-storeyed buildings, deposits worth Rs 35.61 lakh, Rs 6.50 lakh in cash, a four-wheeler, which he could not account for satisfactorily, the anti-corruption agency stated.
“In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance have registered a case and arrested Patro. He will be forwarded to the court today,” it added.
The BEO, however, claimed that cash recovered from his house belongs to his sister-in-law, who had kept it with him for her house construction work, and the buildings at Polasara are ancestral properties.
Assets unearthed in the name of Patro and his family members are as follows:
1. A double-storey residential building over 3500 sqft area at Ramakrushna Nagar, 7th Lane, near Khodasingh, Berhampur.
2. A double-storey building over 1600 sqft area at Kolisahi, Polasara, Ganjam.
3. Another building at Kolisahi, Polasara, Ganjam.
4. a homestead plot measuring 2000 sqft at Khodasingh under Berhampur-II.
5. Rs 6.50 lakh in cash
6. Bank & insurance deposits worth Rs 35,61,157
5. One four-wheeler & 2 two-wheelers.
