Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested secretary of Ostia SCS under Central Co-Operative Bank Ltd, Saranda Branch in Banki, Srinivas Mantri, for allegedly embezzling Rs 11.83 lakh of loan repayment amount.
“He had collected Rs.11,83,718 from loanees on different dates but did not enter the same in the Day Book of Ostia SCS,” a Vigilance release said.
The bank had sanctioned loans farmers and they had repaid the same on different dates over two years. When some loanees came to know about the irregularities, they reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities. “The subsequent inquiry revealed that Mantri had siphoned off the load repaid by 59 farmers. The number of loanees may go up,” it said.
A case has been registered against him and further investigation is underway.
