Odisha Vigilance Arrests Engineer In Kalahandi For Amassing Assets 218% Higher Than Income
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths arrested Bhawanipatna Municipality Deputy Executive Engineer Samir Kumar Thakur in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Thursday on charges of possessing disproportionate assets 218 per cent higher than his known sources of income.
Thakur was forwarded to the Vigilance Special Judge Court in Bhawanipatna following his arrest. He was sent to judicial custody till January 9, 2023, a Vigilance release said.
A team of Vigilance sleuths conducted raids on his properties and unearthed movable and immovable assets in the name of the Deputy Executive Engineer and his family members.
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Thakur were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which are 218% higher than his known sources of income, it said.
The properties and valuables include:
- One triple storeyed building at Mahavirpada, Bhawanipatna worth approx Rs 1 crore.
- A double storeyed building at Irrigation Colony, Bhawanipatna worth approx Rs.60 lakh.
- 3 plots in and around Bhawanipatna.
- Cash Rs.49,163/-.
- Bank, Postal & Insurance deposits and Investment in Mutual Funds worth over Rs.52.56 lakh.
- 1 four wheeler worth over Rs.8.57 lakh.
- Gold jewellery approx 250 grams and silver ornaments 930 grams worth over Rs.8.71 lakh.
- Household articles worth over Rs.11.73 lakh.
