Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested Binayak Nayak, former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Kuerimandu gram panchayat under Kandhamal district’s Phiringia block.
Nayak has been charged with misappropriation/embezzlement of government funds amounting to Rs 12.87 lakh (Rs 12,87,201 to be precise).
The misappropriation of the money — from the State Finance Commission Fund of the gram panchayat — occurred without any development work being executed between February and March 2025.
The case against Nayak — Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 18/2025 — has been registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused will be produced before court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.
