Bhubaneswar: A clerical staff of Odisha State Civil Supply Corporation (OSCSC) was arrested on Sunday after he was allegedly found possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
“Rabindra Kumar Barik, who works as a junior accountant in the office of District Manager, OSCSC Ltd, Sundargarh, has been placed under arrest and will be forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore, today,” a Vigilance release said.
This came a day after, Odisha Vigilance sleuths unearthed a triple-storey building, a market complex and a Kalyan Madap along with four valuable plots in and around Balasore town during simultaneous searches at various properties linked to Barik.
These apart, gold weighing 175 grams, Rs.43.81 lakh in deposits, a four wheeler and two motorcycles worth Rs 12.40 lakh along with cash and household articles valued at Rs 32.15 lakh were detected, the sources of which he could not explain satisfactorily, the release further stated.
It further stated that Barik started working as a junior accountant in November 1995 in the civil supplies office, Bhadrak, with a salary Rs 5,400 per month. He worked in the same rank for about three decades in Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, and Mayurbhanj districts, before being posted to Sundargarh in July last year.
