Odisha Vigilance Arrests Nayagarh MVI For Possessing Assets 293% More Than Income
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Nayagarh Motor Vehicle Inspector Panchanan Behera for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of 293 per cent.
The MVI was arrested following raids conducted by Vigilance sleuths at properties linked to him. During searches, the Vigilance officials detected two buildings in Bhubaneswar, 31 plots, including 10 ‘benami’ ones in the state capital, deposits of over Rs 72 lakh.
He was arrested and forwarded to court for possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 293% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily, an official release said.
In this connection, a case was registered against Behera and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.
During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of Behera and his family members;
1) One double storeyed building located at Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar with area over 3000 Sqft.
2) One single storeyed building located at Satya Vihar, Pandara, Bhubaneswar with area approx 2400 Sqft.
3) 31 plots in prime area in Bhubaneswar, of which 10 are benami plots.
4) Bank & Insurance deposits worth Rs.72.80 Lakhs.
5) Cash, Gold and household articles worth over Rs.15 Lakhs.
6) Expenditure over Rs.50 Lakhs made by Sri Behera towards Medical education (MBBS) of his son at SOA, University, Bhubaneswar.
7) 4 benami vehicles including 1 four-wheeler (Maruti Ritz) & 3 two wheelers.
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Behera were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 293% in excess of his known sources of income. Investigation of the case is in progress.
