Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Ramesh Chandra Jena, Senior Private Secretary of Panchayat Raj and Drinking Water Department, for allegedly possession huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Vigilance said Jena was arrested after the anti-corruption agency conducted simultaneous raids at eight places linked to him and detected huge assets, including three buildings and five high-value plots, which were disproportionate to the tune of 123% of his known sources of income.
The official was arrested and forwarded to the special court as he could not account for these satisfactorily, Vigilance said in a statement.
During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets were unearthed in the name of Jena and his family members;
1) One triple storeyed building with area 4500 Sqft. over plot No.1979/3971, Mouza-Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar worth approx. Rs.1.02 crore.
2) One double storeyed building with area 2100 Sqft. over a plot in No.K-4, Kalinga Nagar, Bhubaneswar.
3) One building at Nirakarpur, Khurda.
4) 5 high value plots including 4 in upscale areas of Bhubaneswar & 1 in Kanasa, Puri.
5) Deposits Rs.5.50 lakh.
6) 1 four-wheeler (Honda Amaze) & 3 two wheelers.
7) Cash, gold & household articles worth around Rs 9 lakh.
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Jena were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 123% in excess of his known sources of income. Investigation of the case is in progress.
