Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a junior clerk in Nandapur block of Koraput district for allegedly taking Rs 15,000 bribe to process a file.
The accused was identified as Sambit Tripathy, junior clerk in the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Nandapur. He was caught by Vigilance while demanding and taking first instalment of Rs 15,000 of overall demand of Rs 30,000 bribe to process the file for RACP/MACP and drawl of arrear pay of a deceased government servant, who was a teacher in a primary school.
The teacher passed away on October 27, 2019 while in service. After death of the teacher, his wife was drawing family pension and surviving on the same.
On June 11, 2025, sanction from the competent authority was received in the office of BEO for drawl of the revised pension/gratuity of the deceased teacher. However, Tripathy did not process the file and demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 for processing the file to draw the RACP/ MACP and revised pension/ gratuity and credit the amount to the account of the wife of the deceased.
On getting information about the harassment of the old woman family pensioner by Tripathy, Vigilance authorities nabbed Tripathy today while taking bribe Rs 15,000 as an instalment of the demanded bribe. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Tripathy and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Tripathy from DA angle. Investigation is underway.
