Odisha Visit: Lt Gen Mohanty Calls For Educating Youth About Armed Forces
Bhubaneswar: Creating awareness about the defence forces among youth and educating them about the forces will be his agenda, said Lt Gen CP Mohanty, who is set to take charge of Vice-Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) later this month. This, he said, can only happen through inclusive education and encouraging more youths to join the forces.
Addressing media persons in the city today, Lt Gen Mohanty urged the Government to include military education in the syllabus of civic science so that the younger generation can know the structure of Armed Forces. He called upon the youth to join the three services of Army, Navy and the Air Force.
“I would urge the youths of Odisha, both girls and boys to participate in sports, NCC, join Sainik School in greater numbers and the armed forces too, he said.
About the formation of Kalinga Regiment (based in Odisha), Lt Gen Mohanty said after the Army, Navy and the Air Force are focussing more on technology and infrastructure. The defence forces are not expanding in terms of numbers. The emphasis is more on infrastructure development and modernisation, he said.
“Post-independence, a single new regiment has been formed, the Naga Regiment which has only two battalions. Another two regiments were formed before that – Bihar Regiment and the Assam Regiment. The matter (proposal of Kalinga Regiment) has come before me, and I will see what can be done about it.”
