Bhubaneswar: On her maiden visit to Odisha for two days after assuming the top constitutional position in the country, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday visited her alma mater Unit-2 Capital Girls’ High School and Kuntalakumari Sabat Adivasi Girls Hostel.
After interacting with students, staff and her friends at the school, she visited the hotel room, where she stayed during her student days. She turned emotional as she sat on the cot on which she used to sleep in the 1970s. The cot was repaired and put up on display in the room. Two pictures of her school days, one in which she is flanked by two friends, were framed and put up in the room.
Droupadi also met her 13 friends and expressed her happiness for being in midst of her classmates, students of her school and teachers. She enquired about her other hostel roommates and asked: “Where is Chuni? Incidentally, she was absent on the occasion. Droupadi also planted a sapling on the hostel premises, where she stayed for four years from 1970 to 1974.
In the visitor’s diary, the President wrote that it was a nostalgic day for her and she was overwhelmed with emotion while interacting with the students and staff here. “I was happy to see that the students are being provided with a safe, secure and homely environment at the hostel. I wish them the best for their future,” she added.
