Bhubaneswar: Software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari, who was found hanging in a rented house at Sailashree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Odisha’s capital, died due to asphyxiation, the postmortem report has revealed.
Sweta’s boyfriend Soumyajeet Mohapatra was questioned inside the Chandrasekharpur police station on Tuesday in connection with her ‘death by suicide’. DCP (Bhubaneswar) Prateek Singh reached the Chandrasekharpur police station on Wednesday for further investigation.
Police have registered a case against Soumyajeet under IPC Section 306 (offence of abetment to suicide) on the basis of the complaint lodged by Sweta’s father.
Sweta’s family has alleged that Soumyajeet was harassing her, which forced her to take the extreme step.
Earlier, Sweta’s father told the media that Soumyajeet’s family had demanded Rs 30 lakh from him for their wedding.
Sweta worked as a Technology Analyst at Infosys in Bhubaneswar.
