Jajpur: The Jajpur district police have launched an investigation into a sexual harassment complaint lodged by a woman against an officer of a police beat house at Jumpuri near Mangalpur.
According to the complaint, the woman of Katikata village had gone to the police beat house with her family on March 16 to lodge a complaint against some villagers in a land dispute case.
After listening to her complaints, the officer-in-charge, Bijay Kumar Swain, asked the family members to wait outside.
After this, Swain started asking her personal questions regarding her marriage and her husband’s profession. The officer allegedly told her that he would lodge her complaint only if she slept with him. He then allegedly dragged her to a room and groped her private parts.
Following the incident, the woman met the Jajpur SP and narrated her ordeal.
After hearing the woman, the SP directed the Additional SP, Bauribandhu Behera, the Mangalpur IIC, Asit Ranjan Mohanty, and a woman police officer to probe into the incident.
Acting on the directive, the three officials went to the police beat house on Friday evening and interrogated Swain. Later, they went to the house of the victim and collected details from her.
