Cuttack: In a dramatic incident, a woman from Banki area of Cuttack district allegedly staged her fake drowning to flee with her reported boyfriend to Puri. She was later found along with her partner.
As per information, the woman from Ratagarh village went missing and was initially suspected to have drowned in the Mahanadi River during ‘Khudurukuni’ idol immersion on Monday morning.
Puja materials and some of her belongings were also found on the river bank and villagers feared she had been swept away by the strong current of the river.
On being informed, ODRAF and fire service personnel carried out intensive search operations in the river but failed to trace her. It was later found that the woman had crossed the river and escaped with her boyfriend.
The incident took a dramatic turn when police traced the woman at Chudanga Sahi in Puri town, where she was reportedly staying with her male friend. The two were detained by Puri Town police on Tuesday night.
A senior police official confirmed the development and said the woman’s husband informed that she was at Puri Town police station. After receiving the information, Banki police sent a team to bring the woman back. Further details are awaited.
