Balasore: Police in Odisha’s Balasore district have arrested a 22-year-old man and his 27-year-old lover for allegedly murdering his friend in a hotel room following a dispute over sexual advances during a drinking session.
The accused, identified as Ramachandra Singh and Jemamani Singh, were apprehended on Monday from separate locations in Mayurbhanj and Jajpur districts, respectively. They are both from Tantiamuhan village under Betnoti police limits in Mayurbhanj district
The victim, Akash Mohanta, aged around 30, was found dead in a room at Hotel Suraj on December 27, four days after the group checked in on Christmas Day, December 25.
According to Balasore city DSP Nirmala Gochayat, Akash and Ramachandra had initially traveled from their village to Betnoti police station to check on a home guard recruitment admit card. Learning that Ramachandra’s application was rejected, they proceeded to Balasore and picked up Jemamani along the way. The trio checked into the hotel, where Ramachandra and Jemamani submitted fake Aadhaar cards, while Akash’s was genuine. All three were married, and Jemamani, a mother of two, had been living separately from her husband.
Investigations revealed that after consuming liquor in the room on the night of December 25, a fight broke out when Akash allegedly demanded physical intimacy from Jemamani. Ramachandra reportedly pinned Akash down and strangled him, with Jemamani assisting by holding his legs, leading to his death. The couple fled the scene, leaving the body behind.
Both confessed to the crime during interrogation, police added.
