Berhampur/Kochi: Two persons from Odisha’s Ganjam district were crushed to death when the concrete slab of a two-storey house they were demolishing came crashing down on them at Maradu in Kerala on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Sushanta Naik (38) of Ekalpur under Badagada police limits in Ganjam and Shankar Naik (28) of Kusan Gadia under the same police limits.
According to sources, Sushant and Shankar were engaged as construction workers in Kerala’s Ernakulam when the roof of an under-construction building at Gandhi Square collapsed around 11 am and both of them were trapped under the debris.
Firefighters and local police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Though they were rushed to a nearby hospital, they were declared dead soon thereafter.
Thereafter, their family members were contacted and informed about the mishap.
The family members have urged the district administration to help them bring the bodies back to their respective villages to perform their last rites.
