Bhubaneswar: In an impressive show, the Odisha Yatri app launched by the state transport department has now provided good income to the drivers. In five months, more than 10,000 drivers have earned more than Rs two crore.

Since there is no commission in this government cab system, more and more drivers are getting attracted to it. Crossing the two lakh trip mark during the period is more than just a milestone – it is a testament to the faith that the people of Odisha have placed in a mobility solution they have built, an official statement said on Thursday.

“Odisha Yatri is aimed at neutrality, cleanliness and safety. We are just getting started,” said Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, and Housing & Urban Development Department.

The Odisha Yatri app was launched by the transport department in January this year. Drivers registered themselves in this as they did not have to pay commission for this with the government app. So far, 10,000 drivers have registered themselves in this.

Since the government cab system is very secure, people are also showing faith in it. So far, 161,000 people in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have completed their fares. The highest number of trips are in the capital. It is reported that more than 10.5 lakh people have searched this app.

However, the biggest thing is that drivers in the capital have earned Rs 2.5 crore in this cab system, while in Cuttack they have earned Rs 5.90 lakh. In this regard, they do not have to pay any money as commission. It is noteworthy that drivers registered in other cab systems prevalent in the state give a large part of the income they earn to the relevant organization in the form of commission.

Since the state government does not have to pay any commission for Odisha passengers, drivers are now turning their backs on other cab systems.

It is said that this is very safe as the police are keeping an eye on Odisha passengers. If any person gets into trouble, they should immediately inform the police and both the police and the transport department will take steps in this direction. Due to this, other cab drivers repeatedly cancel the bookings of passengers and demand more money in cash late at night, which is not observed in Odisha passengers. So far, 1,24,000 users have registered themselves in the capital alone, while in Cuttack this number is more than 37,000. However, the transport department aims to expand this system to other districts of Odisha and establish a foothold at the national level.

The transport department is currently going to connect domestic ambulances with Odisha passengers. This will increase the number of Odisha passengers and the patients and their relatives will be free from exploitation.
