Jajpur: This smart alec was indulging in cyber fraud for people in other states, sitting at his Bari house in Odisha’s Jajpur. However, his newly acquired assets attracted attention and gave him in. A Delhi Police team arrested him on Wednesday on charges of facilitating various cyber frauds.
A five-member police team from the national capital raided Pritam Kar’s house at Bhurunga under Bari Ramachandrapur police limits in Jajpur and nabbed him. Cops also reportedly seized some incriminating documents from him. The 30 -year-old youth used to provide SIM cards to cybercriminals under fake identities in Odisha, police said.
As per reports, Pritam used to generate bogus ID proofs and activate the SIM cards of various telecom networks before selling them to cybercriminals in Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, who in turn used to cheat people through online mode by using these SIM cards, police said. Pritam used to send the SIMs through courier.
The Delhi Police has moved a local court in Jajpur seeking transit remand of Pritam for more investigation. His involvement in online fraud in Odisha is also under the scanner.
A manhunt has been launched to trace the cybercriminals involved in the illegal syndicate in other states.
