Bhubaneswar: Chilka MLA of ruling BJD Prashant Jagdev, who beat up a BJP legislator on Wednesday, was suspended from the party.
Chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik in an official order said Prashant Kumar Jagdev, MLA of Chilika Assembly constituency in Khurda district is suspended from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) with immediate effect. The chief minister has also removed Jagdev from the post of chairperson, District Planning Committee, Khurda.
Earlier in the day, while Balugaon Nagar BJP president Niranjan Sethi had gone to NAC office to enquire about delay in payment of old age pension and dues of other welfare programmes, he was beaten up by Jagdev.
Later, BJP workers staged a dharna in front of Balugaon police station demanding arrest of the BJD legislator.
