Bhubaneswar: To enhance the accuracy of motor vehicle fitness inspections, the Odisha government has set up India’s first Automated Testing Station (ATS) centre under the jurisdiction of Cuttack RTO.
Here the vehicles would be driven on a testing track to know their road worthiness.
According to Central Motor Vehicle Rules, the ATS system is implemented to ensure efficient and transparent fitness testing and strengthen regulatory compliance, which will enhance road safety and streamline the vehicle inspection process.
Previously, fitness certification and vehicle registration renewal were based on manual assessments prone to human errors.
Recently, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur conducted a thorough inspection of the centre in Cuttack. The automated testing system employs advanced technology to evaluate vehicle fitness and is expected to minimise errors, increase efficiency, and promote transparency in the inspection process.
The automated fitness evaluation will eliminate unfit vehicles from roads, significantly contributing to the reduction of road accidents, an official release said.
The government plans to establish 21 more ATS centres soon, it added.
