Puri: The mortal remains of Odisha’s legendary poet and former bureaucrat Ramakanta Rath were consigned to flames at Swargadwar in Puri on Monday.
The remains of Rath, who passed away at his residence in Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar, were taken to the pilgrim town for the last rites around noon.
His son Pinaki Rath lit the pyre in the presence of a host of distinguished personalities, who had gathered at Swargadwara to have a last glimpse of the literary giant.
Apart from family members and relatives, people from different spheres of life including writers, poets, lyricists and artists thronged Sargadwar to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
Among others, Puri Collector Siddharth Shanker Swain and SP Vineet Agarwal were also present as the cremation was performed with full state honours.
