Berhampur: Nothing goes to waste at ITI-Berhampur literally with the campus setting up the first open air scrap park in Odisha.
The park, which features more than 20 sculptures made out of debris of building materials and other metal scraps, was inaugurated by the chief of TATA Aerospace and Defence, Masood Hussaini, on Friday.
“We have named it Mind Heart and Hand Park. I hope that people will come here in large numbers and appreciate our efforts,” said Sibasis Panda, a student of ITI-Berhampur.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Odisha Skill Development and Technical Education, Sanjay Kumar Singh, and the Chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority, Subroto Bagchi, were also present during the inauguration.
Bagchi said, “The park is a glaring example of the ‘Skilled In Odisha’ initiative that the state has been promoting among youths.
“Hussaini of TATA Aerospace was quite pleased with the students’ efforts and he assured us that TATA will collaborate with us in aviation and avionics sector. I hope the foundation stone for this project will be laid at ITI-Berhampur,” he added.
The students too are ecstatic with the new attraction on the campus. “We have learnt a lot from these scrap sculptors. The waste materials shouldn’t be thrown away. They can be used in an aesthetic way too,” said a girl student of fitter trade said.
“The park looks great in the evening with its decorative lights and all,” she added.
Notably, students of ITI-Berhampur have already made it to the Asia Book of Records for making a giant replica of a guitar and India Book of Records for a giraffe model from scrap materials.
