Bhubaneswar: In a significant push to modernise and empower its vast network of women’s self-help groups, the Odisha government has announced a comprehensive revamp of Mission Shakti, the state’s flagship programme for women’s empowerment.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Monday revealed that 46,000 community support staff will soon receive smartphones and official ID cards, along with a new dress code which will be introduced from April 1, coinciding with Utkal Dibas. “This was a longstanding demand of the community staff of Mission Shakti. The Community Resource Persons will be provided with mobile phones. To further empower Lakhpati Didis, it’s important that they use the LokOS app on their smartphones,” she told reporters.
Elaborating on the new dress code, Parida said that it will have “an Odia artisan vibe” and offer a window into Odisha’s rich culture and heritage. “They will be smartly dressed and the colour code would also reflect Odia Asmita (pride),” she said, refusing to divulge further details.
Currently, they wear cream saree with green border and pink saree with blue border.
The ID cards will serve as official identification, making it easier for them to coordinate and interact with government agencies, banks, and other financial institutions.
Officials believe this move will strengthen the sense of belonging among members and reinforce the collective image of Mission Shakti as a transformative force in Odisha.
