Odisha’s Nandini Sahu Takes Charge As VC Of Bengal’s Hindi University

Bhubaneswar: Nandini Sahu, who hails from Kadhamal district in Odisha, recently took charge as vice-chancellor of Hindi University, West Bengal.

She is a triple gold medallist in English literature and author of 21 books.

Sahu did her doctorate in English literature under the guidance of Professor Niranjan Mohanty of Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan. She was awarded gold medal for her contributions to English Studies in India in the year 2019. She is also the recipient of the Michael Madhusudan Academy Award, 2024.

She earlier served as director, School of Foreign Languages and as a professor of English at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

During her brief stint as an associate professor at a private institute in Rayagada district, she had translated the work of renowned Odia writers into English.

As the VC, Sahu plans to foster collaboration between Odia and Bengali through seminars and academic programmes. “My vision is to create an international standard academic framework for the university. Additionally, I will leverage my expertise in Indian English literature, folklore and cultural studies to enrich the university’s curriculum and research initiatives,” she told TOI.
