Odisha’s Positivity Rate Lowest In The Country, 82% Cases Asymptomatic
Bhubaneswar: Mission Director, NHRM, Shalini Pandit on Wednesday said that Odisha has the lowest positivity rate in the country. Delhi has registered 8.4 positive cases per 100 tests while it is 0.4 case per 100 tests in Odisha.
She said that the positivity rate has decreased with the increase in tests and this means that virus spread in the state is limited.
“Earlier only symptomatic cases were tested, but now samples of all returnees, possible contacts and those in the risk category are being collected,” she said.
Pandit said that identification of more positive cases would mean that right samples are being picked for tests. “This will help check further spread of the virus,” she said.
“In the country, 452 tests are done per 1 million people. In Odisha, 666 tests done per 1-million persons. Efforts are being done to increase the testing capacity. Odisha is now doing 15000 tests per week,” she informed.
Pandit further said that asymptomatic cases in the state are as high as 82 per cent and these people can spread the infection unknowingly. “Therefore, we should strictly follow the lockdown guidelines and social distancing norms,” she added.
