Bhubaneswar: Puri district has bagged the National Award for Plastic Waste Management from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under Ministry of Jal Shakti.
An official of Puri district received the award from actor and founder of Paani Foundation, Aamir Khan at the award ceremony held during the ODF Sustainability Workshop under Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 campaign in Delhi on Sunday.
Besides Puri, Dibrugarh in Assam, Sirmur in Himachal Pradesh, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh figured in the nomination list.
Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2019, a jan andolan for Swachhata, was organised from September 11 to October 2, 2019 and all central and state governments were encouraged to ban the use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) products during the campaign period.
The event will also include an interactive session with the actor.
