Cuttack: Odisha’s senior columnist Dr Pabak Kanungo passed away at his residence in Markatnagari of Cuttack on Thursday. He was 78.
A well-known litterateur, Kanungo was a professor in Political Science at Christ College in Cuttack. He retired as head of the department.
He was known for his book “Odisha O Gandhi” on the visits of Mahatma Gandhi to the state between 1921 and 1947. It details the problems that Gandhi came to know about Odisha and suggested solutions for those.
The book also narrates the love and respect of the people of Odisha towards for his visionary leadership during the freedom struggle. Besides, the historical connection of Odisha and its contribution to the national struggle are narrated in the book.
Kanungo was conferred Odisha Sahitya Akademi award for the book in 2001.
Several eminent persons include eminent educationist Prof Debakant Mishra, Prof Praksh Chandra Srangi, Prof Jugal Kishore Mishra, Das Benhur, Dr Narayan Mohanty, Dr SanatanPradhan, Dr Rashmi Mishra, pubisher of Odia daily ‘Samaj’ Dr Prabhas Acharya and editor of daily ‘Nirbhay’ Nabin Das have condoled the demise of Kanungo.
