Bhadrak: In a unique method to protest shortage of teachers, students and their parents of a government school allegedly locked the Additional District Education Officer (ADEO) and Block Education Officer (BEO) inside the school premises in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Monday.
According to information, the incident took place at Talanga Government Upper Primary School in the district.
The protesters alleged that severe and prolonged shortage of teachers at the school continued to disrupt regular academic activities and affected the education of students.
Locals said students, accompanied by their parents and guardians, staged a demonstration outside the school gates, demanding immediate intervention from the education authorities.
The protesters reportedly expressed frustration over the continued shortage of teaching staff and the lack of a satisfactory solution despite their concerns being raised earlier. They demanded that adequate teachers be appointed at the earliest so that classes can be conducted properly and students do not suffer further.
After receiving information about the protest, ADEO and BEO reportedly visited the school to assess the situation and speak with the protesting students and their guardians.
However, tension reportedly escalated during the discussions when the agitated protesters locked the main entrance gate of the school, leaving both officials inside the premises.
The protesters are demanding a concrete assurance from the education authorities and a time-bound solution to the problems caused by shortage of teachers.
School authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
