OHRC Directs DCP Bhubaneswar & Utkal Univ Registrar To Ensure Protection For Law College Students During Exams

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar and the Registrar of Utkal University to ensure and provide adequate protection to students of the University Law College (ULC) on examination days.

A complaint was filed by some of the students of ULC, Utkal University through human rights activist Subhransu Sekhar Udgata, raising concerns about the law and order situation during upcoming exams.

The students feared some of them may be attacked and sought immediate protection, and prayed for direction to police to provide one platoon for assisting the Principal of University Law College to conduct the examination smoothly and place body camera with police personnel on duty to record any activity by miscreants/hooligans and submit the same to the OHRC.

“Considering the grievance made, this Commission disposes this proceeding with a recommendation to the Dy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar UPD and also Registrar, Utkal University to do the needful to conduct the examination smoothly and ensure that no disturbance is created in the Campus and provide adequate protection in the days of examination to the students,” read the Justice S Pujahari’s order.

He also directed that a copy, along with the complaint petition, be sent to DCP Bhubaneswar and the Registrar, Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar for necessary action.
