Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Thursday asked Director General of Police (Home Guards) and Mayurbhanj SP to submit inquiry reports over the ‘kneel down’ punishment meted out to four home guards
by reserve police inspector Ashok Kumar Sethi at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district for violating dress code.
Acting on a petition filed by a human rights activist, the OHRC asked them to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and submit their reports within four weeks.
Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj SP recorded the statements of the four home guards and issued relieving order to the reserve inspector.
On Wednesday, the Director General of Police (Home Guards) had sought a report over the incident from the SP.
The incident occurred on June 25, when the home guards, including a woman, were forced to kneel down before their office after they were allegedly found wearing causal shirt with khaki pant during Rath Yatra duty.
