New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stepped up his attack on the BJP on Monday by sharing a fake post in the name of US President Donald Trump, after the party served him a legal notice over allegations that it tried to bribe National Conference legislators and engineer defections.
In the satirical post, Trump is shown praising Abdullah’s campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Sharing the screenshot
on X, Abdullah wrote, “If only!”, making it clear that the post was fabricated. Trump has not made any such post on any of his social media accounts.
The fake post used Trump’s familiar style of exaggerated praise and political bravado. It read: “Big things happening in Jammu & Kashmir! I have to give a BIG shoutout to my friend, Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah what a guy! He’s working hard, talking smart, and fighting for Statehood like a lion roar… mostly). (without the Omar said “Statehood or bust!” – I love that! He’s got style, vision, and even got the mountains cheering for him (I asked them, they nodded). Let’s bring back Statehood and make J&K GREAT AGAIN! Believe me, nobody restores better than me… except maybe Omar in J&K!” The post also echoed Trump’s well-known “Make America Great Again” slogan.
The war of words between the BJP and Abdullah intensified after he alleged that the saffron party had tried to bribe NC legislators. Abdullah claimed that the BJP “offered ₹20 -30 crore” to at least one NC MLA in an effort to topple his government.
