Mumbai: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Mumbai from December 16 to December 31 to prevent the spread of COVID-19
Mumbai Police has banned large gatherings during the festival season covering Christmas and New Year eve.
There are fears of a third COVID-19 wave in India with Omicron-positive cases growing daily. Maharashtra accounts for the largest number of coronavirus patients infected by the new variant, having reported 32 of the country’s 73 cases till date.
The notification, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police and Executive Magistrate for Greater Mumbai, requires everyone to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour notified by Maharashtra government while in public places in Mumbai.
Only those who are fully vaccinated can access shops, other establishments and public transport. Attendance in any programme, outdoor or indoor, will be restricted to 50℅ of the capacity, subject to full vaccination of persons organizing or attending.
Anyone violating such restrictions will be punished under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and other relevant penal provisions.
The notification further states that to enter Maharashtra, people should be fully vaccinated or have to carry negative RT-PCR test result conducted within 72 hours of entry.
