Berhampur: Odisha government has put the southern districts on alert after detection of Omicron variant of COVID-19 in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Gajapati and Ganjam districts which witness a floating population from the states of AP and Gujarat have intensified checking, especially on the border areas.
With a large number of people likely to return to their homeland from AP and Surat, the the district administrations have taken all precautionary measures.
COVID vaccination and testing have been stepped up in areas surrounding Paralakhemundi town. Checking at entry points on roads connecting AP has also been beefed up.
The officials are investigating the travel history of people coming from other states and requested people to follow COVID guidelines like wearing masks, using hand sanitiser and washing.
