New Delhi: Omicron cases in India inched closer to the four-digit mark with 180 more people confirmed to have been infected by the new variant of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
According to Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India’s Omicron tally stood at 961 on Thursday morning.
Even more worrying was the jump in daily COVID-positive cases. As many as 13,154 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours – an increase of more than 30% compared to the previous day. It pushed the India’s overall COVID tally to 34.8 million.
With 268 more people succumbing to the deadly virus, the country’s death toll rose to 480,860.
As for the spread of Omicron strain, cases have now been detected in 22 states and Union territories. Delhi leads with 263 cases followed by Maharashtra (252) and Gujarat (97).
Of the 961 Omicron-positive patients in India, 320 have been discharged.
