On India’s 78th I-Day, Nobel Panel Shares Tagore’s Handwritten Script Of National Anthem

New Delhi: On a day when India celebrated its 78th Independence Day, the Nobel Committee honoured Rabindranath Tagore, the man who composed the country’s National Anthem.

The Nobel Prize shared the English translation of Tagore’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’ on its X page.

“ ‘Jana Gana Mana’ is the national anthem of India, originally composed in Bengali by poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Pictured: An English translation of Jana Gana Mana by Tagore,” read Nobel Prize’s post.

The legendary Bengali poet and social reformer originally composed the song as ‘Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata’ in Bengali in December 1911. The song’s first stanza was adopted by the Indian Constitution as the National Anthem in January 1950.

Tagore’s original handwritten translation shows that the English name of ‘Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata’ was ‘The Morning Song of India’.

In five-and-a-half hours since being posted on X by the Nobel Prize, it has been viewed by more than 1.5 lakh users, reposted 1,100 times and liked by around 4,600 netizens at the time of filing this report.
