Angul: A person died after a goods train derailed near Jarasingha in Angul district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Binay Sahu, a pointsman. He was a resident of Jaroda village.
More than ten wagons of the train went off the track following the derailment.
The train of Jindal Steel Plant carrying fly-ash was heading towards Raipur when the mishap took place. Following which, it ran over the points-man, who was on duty at the spot.
After being informed about the incident, railway officials and police rushed to the spot and suspected that a brake failure in the train engine to have caused the accident.
Owing to the derailment, railway traffic on the up-line was affected for several hours.
