Berhampur: A girl student died while another went missing while taking bath in the sea near Aryapali at Chhatrapur in Odisha’s ganjam district on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Swapna Rani Pandit of Kanisi area. Rescue operation is on to trace Goodly Mishra, who belongs to Sheragad.
According to sources, five girls swept away by a strong current in the sea around 7 am. The villagers managed to rescue three girls. Though Marine police and ODRAF team could rescue Swapna later, she was declared dead at Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital. Efforts are on to trace Goodly, who was waiting for her Plus II Arts results.
One of the girls was visiting her uncle’s place for witnessing Jatra and went out with her friends to take a bath in the sea, when the mishap happened, the sources added.
