Malkangiri: One person was killed and three other members of a family were critically injured after the car carrying them dashed against a tree in Chirakonda area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Tuesday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Rajulkonda in Chitrakonda area of the district when the car with members of a family was proceeding to Narsinghpatna in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Sources said Prakash Khila of Murlageda village under Gudem area of Andhra Pradesh was taking his two daughters and two sons to a residential school at Narsinghpatna in the car. The mishap took place when the vehicle was passing through Chitrakonda area of Odisha, apparently after the driver lost control over the wheels.
As the car hit the roadside tree, Prakash and his children sustained critical injuries. They were rescued and taken to the sub-divisional hospital at Chitrakonda where doctors declared his 15-year-old daughter Rasso Khila dead.
The injured persons are undergoing treatment at the hospital and their condition was stated to be critical.
A team of police personnel visited the accident site and initiated a probe. The driver of the care was stated to have fled and a hunt is on to trace him, the sources added.
