Balangir: One person was killed in a violent attack by a group of villagers over past enmity in the district on Saturday.
According to sources, the shop of Dhanamata Raut of Jarasingha village under Deogaon police limits was totally burnt down a few days back. Suspecting involvement of Karna Suna and Sripati Bhesara of neighbouring Harijanapada village, Dhanamata allegedly attacked them.
Though Karna and Sripati were rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in the town, the latter succumbed to injuries. Enrage over his death, a group of villagers from Harijanapada attacked Dhanamanta and his family members with sharp weapons on Saturday.
On being informed, police rushed to the village and found Dhanamanta dead. They have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding Harijanapada villagers involved in the incident.
Additional police forces have been deployed in Jarasingha village to prevent any untoward incident.
