Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has arrested a former accountant of Baniadiha Society Ltd, Langaleswar, and Bhadrak Central Co-Operative Bank ( BBCC) Bank, Baliapal, in Balasore district for alleged Rs 22.16 lakh fraud.
The arrested has been identified as Satya Anjan Dey, who is under suspension.
According to an official release, Dey misappropriated Rs 22,18,600 deposits of account holders of the society by forging their signatures and producing in-genuine withdrawal slips for 9 years from 2014 to 2023. He was forwarded to the court on March 29.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 13(2)r/w13(1)(a) (c) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and 406/409/465/468/471/477 of the IPC and further investigation is underway.
On Saturday, six corrupt government functionaries were arrested and sent to jail for bribery and misappropriation, and one more was detained following simultaneous operations in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Berhampur. They include 4 former secretaries of 3 PACSs – Bhubaneswar Sahu, Bhagaban Patel, Chhabila Behera & Kantilal Bhoi (Rs 65 lakh misappropriation in Sambalpur); LAMPCS MD LAMPCS Chitta Ranjan Mohanty (Rs 40.68 lakh misappropriation in Rourkela); Revenue Inspector Debasis Nayak arrested for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 7,000; Assistant Project Manager, OWSSB, Bhubaneswar, Debasis Sahoo detained following house search in a disproportionate assets case.
